Healing Detox Bath Recipes

Self-love is the key to relaxation, and we know all about this at Goddess Retreats, where our spa treatments are unlimited!  We want to share with you our best at-home healing spa treatments.

I know what you’re thinking: I barely have time for a shower, let alone a fancy bath! But trust me, taking the time for a detox bath is well worth it. We think that this healing bath therapy is the best way to clean and relax at the same time.

What are the benefits of detox baths?

Baths are divine! They make it easy to relax, unwind, and pamper your body after a long, stressful day. With a few natural ingredients added, a regular bath can be turned into a healing detox bath, which is even better!

When we take a detox bath, we not only improve our health and well-being, but we also strengthen our overall immune and nervous system.

How do detox baths work?

Sweating is one way to get rid of toxins that are bad for your body. Detox baths are a great way to sweat out toxins. Also, a healing detox bath does more than just get rid of toxins. It also helps keep the body’s processes in balance.

Depending on the ingredients you choose, some baths can help control how enzymes work, while others can help ease pain and speed up the healing process or help calm a frazzled nervous system.

Key Ingredients for a Detox Bath

Including bath salts is the key to making a healing bath. Do you know that making your own bath salts has a lot of great benefits? Since most of them are made with Epsom salt as the base, you get all the great benefits that come with it, like more magnesium, which can help relieve headaches. By adding aromatherapy essential oils, you can improve your mood and help your body feel calm and ready for anything.

Here’s how to make your own healing detox baths at home:

1. Make sure you are hydrated before your bath – A detox bath is meant to be very strong and pull all kinds of toxins out of your body. Making sure you’re well hydrated before the jumping in

2. Fill a very hot bath with water – Fill the tub with as much water as you can and as hot of water as you can handle. This will help the bath draw out the most toxins possible.

3. Put the main ingredients in the tub – There are many recipes for detox baths out there. We have 2 of our favourites healing bath recipes below. You can choose what ingredients you want to add and this will affect how the bath will benefit your body.

Most recipes for detox baths include at least one ingredient that actively pulls toxins out of the body. You wouldn’t normally think of bentonite clay, apple cider vinegar, baking soda, or even hydrogen peroxide as bath ingredients. They are balanced by ingredients that soothe and give other health benefits. Lemongrass, flower petals, and a variety of essential oils  are my favourites.

4. Sink in and stay in – Follow the directions in your particular recipe for a detox bath. But you should usually stay in your detox bath for at least 20 minutes. You have to let the ingredients work on your skin for a while.

5. Pat yourself dry and be kind to your skin – When it’s time to get out of the tub, be very careful. Just now, a lot happened to your body. Take a break, drink some water, and give your body time to heal. You can brush your body to help it detox even more, but in general, be kind to your body.

Energizing and Relaxing Healing Detox Bath Recipes

Homemade baths are an easy way for me to pamper myself. Not only are they inexpensive, but they are easy to make. I love this fresh lemongrass and lime bath with homemade bath salts. It has a refreshing citrus scent that helps me feel energised.

Energising Lemongrass and Lime Detox Bath Recipe

Energising Detox Bath Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Epson salts
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup coarse sea salt
  • 8-10 drops Lemon or Lime essential oil
  • 8-10 drops Lemongrass essential oil
  • Rinsed and chopped up lemongrass stalks
  • 1 – 2 thinly sliced lime (into wheels)
  • hot water (for a bath)
  • flannel (for your eyes)
  • cold water (for the flannel)

Organic lemongrass essential oil is great for skin care because it has cleansing properties. These qualities help to clean the skin, get rid of toxins, and make it feel clean and clear. Antioxidants are good for you because they get rid of harmful free radicals that can hurt your skin. You can also use fresh lemongrass, which grows easily in most gardens.

Fresh scents also lower our cortisol stress levels and the entire process of making this gift of a bath for yourself really boosts our self-care factor. Epsom salts contain high levels of magnesium, which are needed to calm our central nervous systems and are beautifully absorbed through the skin.

More energising essential oil you can add to your bath salts:

  • Geranium
  • Basil
  • Sweet orange
  • Grapefruit

Bath Salt Mixing Directions:

In a medium bowl, mix together the salt and baking soda until well blended.  I prefer using a whisk for this, but you can use a spoon. Stir for 1-2 minutes to properly mix the essential oils into this homemade bath salts recipe. The citrus scent is vibrant and invigorating. You can store the salts and add the fresh lemongrass and lime after you fill up your bath tub.

Relaxing Bedtime Bath Recipe

Relaxing Detox Bath Ingredients:

  • In Bali we like to use the frangipani flowers from our garden—they have a beautiful fragrance.
  • Fresh rose petals, all colours and types, can come by. Scrunch half of these lightly.
  • Bunches of fresh lavender – broken into small chunks.
  • Two sprigs of rosemary, take off the stalk.
  • 3 cups of Bentonite clay (or 2 cups of Epson salts)
  • hot water (for a bath).
  • Flannel (for your eyes).
  • Cold water (for the flannel)

More Calming Oils you can add to your bath

  • Lavender Oil.
  • Ylang Ylang Oil.
  • Chamomile Oil.
  • Bergamot Oil.
  • Sandalwood Oil.
  • Rose Oil.
  • Vetiver Oil.

(If you have sensitive skin, you should always do a spot test to see how different essential oils affect your body.)

Start a hot bath and add all of the above.

Get inside and take it easy.

Place the cold flannel over your eyes and relax.

Let each muscle in your body relax one at a time, starting at the top of your head and going all the way down to your toes.

Do this until your whole body is at peace and bliss.♡
